Black Kids get 3.3 in Pitchfork ,the backlash is on!

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

The much hyped Jacksonville,Fl. indie quartet,Black Kids barnstormed bloggers and critics alike with it's Cure-like vocals and jangily guitar rifts backed by glowing praise from indie-rocks bible Pitchfork. Now comes the big payback,as said bible gives debut full length Partie Traumatic(Almost Gold/Columbia) with a 3.3 without actually bothering to review it. I wanted to love the record myself, but after being excited by the initial single "I'm Not Gonna Teach..",the record is disappointing as the best tracks were on the 4-song ep Wizard of Ahhs that kicked the whole mess into overdrive. Just as the good lord give it, just as soon takes it away.

Culture Bully interviews Black Blondie

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Culture Bully ask the questions Minneapolis' Black Blondie answers, about being labeled,Sioux mythology, their upcoming fall debut, their former singer Sarah White and their star-studded First Avenue show with Muja Messiah.

"Samahra Linton-Daly: I am not afraid of being labeled…’cause we sound unique to me. We have to be labeled so that people who like R&B, or soul, or dancehall, or…can give themselves permission to say, “I like them.”

Tasha Baron: I am fascinated with this obsession that people/writers have with labeling our music. People are uncomfortable with things they cannot name. Honestly, the only time I have thought about labeling us was when writing our bio"

This five-day celebration of African arts opens on Wednesday, August 6th at the Cedar Cultural Center with a concert by Mali’s Habib Koité and Bamada. The Twin Cities Pan African festival evolved from DEMO’s successful presentation of the late South African music legend Lucky Dube in 2007 and the organization’s desire to bridge communities through music. Founded by longtime First Avenue talent buyer Stephen T. The New Yorkers' Politics of Fear

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

The New Yorker's - The magazines fear & race-baiting cover is supposedly "Satire" titled The Politics of Fear. Michelle and Barack Obama depicted as the worst of the prejudiced, smearing characterizations that have dogged them over the course of the campaign: Michelle Obama as a revolutionary in military fatigues, packing AK-47 and ammo; her husband dressed like the Muslim he is stubbornly accused of being. Both of them stand in the Oval Office, with a portrait of Osama bin Laden behind them over a fireplace, in which an American flag burns. Not very subtle.-Huffington Post
